FAQ

What exactly is chai?

The word 'chai' literally means tea. In the Western world, we associate chai with masala chai, which is typically black tea mixed with a blend of spices and prepared in milk.

Is your chai in powder form?

No, all our blends are made from real tea and spices designed to be brewed in your milk or water and then strained.

Are your blends vegan-friendly?

Absolutely, all our chai blends contain zero animal products.

How long does your chai stay fresh?

Our chai blends have a 12-month shelf life. Once opened, simply reseal and store it in your pantry.

Does your chai have any sugar in it?

Yes, we use Rapadura sugar to balance the flavour of the tea and spices. Our sugar content varies for each chai blend, but we are conscious about using real ingredients and keeping the processing to a minimum.

How can I make this chai at home?

Depending on your preference, here are the brewing methods for our chai blends:

HOME – Add 25 grams of chai to a small saucepan. Pour in just enough boiling water to submerge the leaves and allow to steep for 3-4 minutes. Add your choice of milk and brew over medium heat until you see steam. Strain into your favourite chai mug and enjoy. NO MILK – Add 25 grams of chai to 400ml of 95-degree water and brew for 3-4 minutes. Strain and enjoy. BARISTA – Place 25 grams of chai into the bottom of a jug. Add just enough boiling water to submerge the leaves and allow to brew for 3-4 minutes. Add desired milk and steam. Strain into a cup and serve with a smile.

Do you use honey in your chai?

No, we are vegan-friendly and use a variety of natural plant-based sweeteners such as maple, rice malt, and agave syrups.

How does the caffeine in your chai compare to espresso?

While black tea does contain caffeine, it is generally considered to have less caffeine than espresso. Our chai blends contain an average of less than 20% black tea content.

We also offer a naturally caffeine-free blend: Rooibos Chai
